Stimulate your mind at Brain Awareness Week

Professor Sophie Scott from UCL's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience will join Dr Jonathan Holmes to discuss how sound and the way our brains interpret auditory information influence our experiences at the theatre. Dr Holmes is an expert on Shakespeare and the history of the theatre, and he will describe how sound has been used in theatre from Shakespeare's time to the present day. The pair will discuss how hearing differs from seeing, what makes sounds seem loud, why people shout when they are on mobile phones, and how audiences react to sound. To register for a place at 'The Audience Brain', which is free between 1pm and 2pm on 17 March at Conway Hall in Holborn, please follow the link above. The event is one of several marking Brain Awareness Week, which runs from 15 to 21 March.
