The myths and realities of life in St Ann’s

PA 44/10 Issues such as drug and alcohol use, poverty, education, migration and social division will be explored when a group of sociologists from The University of Nottingham spend the day in one of the most deprived inner city areas of Nottingham. The one day workshop on Saturday March 13 2010 for residents of St Ann's will be the first of its kind. It is hoped school children, parents, teachers, outreach workers, social workers and youth workers will take this opportunity to share their views through interactive workshops and discussions, art and film screenings. The one day programme has been organised by the School of Sociology and Social Policy as part of the University's Community Partnership scheme. About 300 residents are expected to take part in the event which is part of the Economic Social Research Council's (ESRC) 2010 Festival of Social Science. The following sound track advertising the event has been recorded by the Sycamore Centre Youth Club: http://tiny.cc/eHzhe - The workshop will include a series of lively talks, along with several film and art workshops on the broad theme of inequality.
