University hosts work and wellbeing conference

A healthy workforce is the key to a healthy business as the south west’s public and private sectors are invited to find out at a high profile work and wellbeing conference hosted by the University of Plymouth and opened by Dame Carol Black, National Director of Health and Work. All organisations, regardless of size, are welcome to attend the one day ‘Healthy Workforce Healthy Business’ conference, which through presentations and practical workshops will educate businesses how to develop support and policies for the health and wellbeing of their staff. Key topics include how to implement initiatives without significant investment, access free local health and social care services and understand legal requirements. Liz Tipping who heads up the University’s newly launched MSc in Work and Wellbeing said; “The benefits of healthy workforce include less instances of staff absence, quicker returns to work, improved morale, productivity and positive attitudes to work and change. “As we hope to become a focal point for health and wellbeing in the region, it is our aim that through this conference, we can use our expertise to help other businesses, regardless of size or sector, to enjoy these benefits. Businesses will also hear first hand from other local companies how their own activities have had measurable benefits, as Mark Duddridge, Managing Director of Ginsters confirms; “Our wellbeing programme, now in its fourth year, has had a significant impact on our business. “Aside from directly impacting on our wellbeing we have seen morale, confidence and a willingness to learn new skills and attitudes increase significantly.
