University launches 150th Anniversary ’Graduation Week’ events showcase

Graduation Week on the Hoe is one of the biggest events in the city’s calendar. And as Plymouth University celebrates its 150th anniversary, it is hosting a range of spectacular events to thank all those who have helped make the University the globally successful institution it is today. In the same year as it marks its landmark anniversary, Plymouth University has been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education, the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a university and has also been named one of the top 10 modern universities in the UK – so it has lots to celebrate and here are some of the forthcoming event highlights. The University is proud to support events as part of the Plymouth Marine City Festival, including the amazing ‘Fish Music’ performance from the Peninsula Arts programme on Thursday 13 September. It sees fish filmed at the National Marine Aquarium become musical notes on the Big Screen in the city centre accompanied by the string section of Ten Tors Orchestra and improvising musicians. The Festival also includes a School of Navigation 150th lecture from Plymouth University historian Alston Kennerley, who has written a new chapter for the anniversary year to complement the original Making of the University of Plymouth. This new publication was launched at Plymouth City Museum earlier this month to coincide with their ‘Call of the Running Tide’ exhibition, which is running until 31 October.
