University postal service receives international stamp of approval
The University of Plymouth has become one of the first organisations in the country to receive a gold-standard international accreditation at the first attempt for its postal services. The institution had to undergo a thorough audit of the processes, procedures and people that deal with the thousands of pieces of internal and external mail it handles every day. The award, accredited by Postal and Logistics Consulting Worldwide, is the industry standard as set by the Royal Mail. Paul Ludgate, Campus Services Team Leader, said: “To receive the gold rating at the first attempt is a great achievement and is a feat that has only been achieved by a handful of other organisations. “It is a testament not only to the way we handle the mail, but the way we treat our ‘customers’ as well. The auditor spent a day with the team, investigating every aspect of their work, from equipment quality, health and safety and security, to staff performance, mailroom ergonomics and financial performance. Staff were also ed and shadowed on their mail runs across the campus.
