University to host 2011 Economic and Social Outlook Conference

How can Australia best ensure that the post-global financial crisis mining boom delivers widespread opportunity and prosperity while minimising its risks?. This question will provide a consistent thread for the 2011 Economic and Social Outlook Conference 'Growth Challenge' according to Professor Deborah Cobb-Clark, Director of the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research at The University of Melbourne. Jointly hosted by Melbourne Institute and The Australian newspaper the two-day conference will be held at The University of Melbourne on 30 June and 1 July 2011. 'Now, more than ever, it is critical to ensure that our public policies and economic institutions are capable of promoting economic prosperity and enhancing the wellbeing of all Australians' said Professor Cobb-Clark. 'This conference has established itself as the nation's premiere economic and social public policy conference by providing a unique opportunity for leading politicians, bureaucrats, academics and non-government organisation representatives to work together to advance Australia's interests,' she said. Dr Martin Parkinson PSM, Secretary, Commonwealth Department of the Treasury, will speak at the Conference Dinner to be held on Thursday 30 June.
