Drone in Troy (Turkey) Great news: the UvA recently became certified drone operator. This means that UvA researchers are now allowed to fly drones in areas where they are normally prohibited and that they can use heavier equipment than before. This opens up all sorts of new research opportunities, from tracing archaeological remains to mapping animal populations in nature reserves. The university was granted the so-called ROC, a certificate that vastly expands its authorisation for the use of drones. The permit was requested by Faculty of Humanities researchers but applies to the UvA as a whole. Applicant Jitte Waagen, ACASA archaeologist and coordinator of the 4D Research Lab, is excited about the new certificate. 'This certificate is the highest permit when it comes to working with drones.
