Work duties

The work involves field studies and associated computer, greenhouse and laboratory work as part of the POLLCLIM project that focuses on the ecology and evolution of generalized pollination systems.

The project assistants will assist with field studies of plants and pollinators in southern Sweden, preparation for such work, and processing of plant and insect samples collected in the field. The work will be intense during the core field season (c. 15 May to 1 July), and less intense before and after this period.

The work will be carried out within the research group of Dr. Øystein Opedal within the "Speciation, Adaptation and Co-Evolution (SPACE)" research environment.

With this announcement we open up for hiring up to two project assistants during the field season from 1 May to July 31, with flexible start and end date within these dates. 

Qualifications

  • University education in ecology, evolution or conservation biology.
  • Field work with plants and/or insects.
  • Ability and willingness to stay in the field for extended periods under variable conditions, and flexibility in the event of short-term changes in tasks and schedule.
  • Good knowledge in written and spoken English
  • Basic knowledge about plants and insects, identification and capture.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a group.

  • A valid Swedish driver’s license as we use a car to get out into the field.

We will place great emphasis on personal skills and suitedness. We will also consider ambition, drive and independence. Certain administrative tasks are also part of the work within the research group. There will also be logistic in conjunction with the field work and supervision of both Swedish and foreign students who will participate in the work.
