Work assignments 
The postdoctoral fellow will work within ASC’s research field ’ageing and work’  in close collaboration with the Swedish Research Centre for Return to Work in Later Life RELATE that develops new knowledge and innovative solutions for sustainable working life in an ageing population. The work is conducted in close cooperation with the Professor Ageing and Later Life and other researchers at ASC involved in the centre. Moreover, the postdoctoral fellow will develop and conduct further research in the field of ’ageing and work’. As postdoc, you will principally carry out research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

Qualifications
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree.  This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.

It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree - such as taking statutory leave - then these may be taken into consideration.

Requirements
We are looking for someone with a PhD in Ageing Research, Sociology, Economy, Labour Market Research, Social Policy, Welfare Research, Management, or related areas, fields or environments. We expect experience and competences in one or more fields of research on late working life; labour markets; public, branch and employer policies; lifelong learning; health and rehabilitation; unemployment; economic exclusion and social inequality

A successful candidate should have a specific interest in interdisciplinary research on ageing and the life-course, work and retirement, especially in issues of social exclusion and inequality, labour market and life-course policies as well as social change and transformation processes to carry out research in this area.

A successful candidate should have very good knowledge in quantitative methodology and related analysis tools, in particular very good knowledge in analysis with registry or survey data from various sources. Documented expertise concerning analysis software such as STATA, R, SPSS, Mplus or similar is crucial.

Very good knowledge of English language, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to work well in dialogue with others is expected.

Further merits
Experience with mixed methods research, specifically with participatory research approaches and the close collaboration with qualitative researchers is a further merit.

The ambition and ability to work in international consortia, in large scale research networks and collaboration with national and international societal stakeholders is especially meriting. It is expected that a successful candidate will contribute to the discussion of research and analytical concepts to further improve quality of the divisions’ scientific output in the further development of ASC.

Very good knowledge of Swedish language is an advantage.

The employment
This employment is a temporary contract of two years with the possibility of extension up to a total maximum of three years. The employment is full-time. Starting by agreement - preferably by September 1, 2026.
