Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Department of Functional and Evolutionary Ecology in the working group of Christa Schleper (Archaea Ecology and Evolution). Our research focuses on the physiology, ecological distribution and evolution of archaea, with a focus on Asgard and ammonia oxidizing archaea. Our international, engaged team bridges molecular techniques and functional genomics with microbiological, biochemical and physiological approaches.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You work on your own research project relevant to the archaeal cell cycle.
  • You publish internationally
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You supervise your students and help out in teaching.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.


This is part of your personality: 

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in Biology, Microbiology and/or Genetics or similar topic
  • Excellent dissertation
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
  • Didactic skills, experiences in supervision
  • IT skills, including programming and scripting and excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge in archaea, particularly in cultivation, metagenomics, -transcriptomics, phylogenomics, archaeal physiology or cell biology is a significant advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of English (C1)
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
