Just before the Dutch Parliamentary elections, charismatic party leader Hugo de Jonge committed a slip of the tongue that even Joe Biden would not have made. 'As Jesus would say, don't pin me down on it,' he said in a respected talk show. The ultra-short but oh-so-explosive fragment spreads over the internet like an oil slick. The indignation is great - not least of De Jonge himself, who claims never to have made the statement. Implausible story? It may sound strange, but something similar really happened. CDA supporters have indeed become angry for a misplaced statement by a prominent politician of their party.
