17 ’highly cited researchers’ in various life science domains at Ghent University
Ghent University has no less than 17 researchers with the Highly Cited status this year. This is a remarkably high number considering that there is a total of 40 Highly Cited researchers in Belgium. Thomson Reuters (now called Clarivate Analytics) launched this exclusive list in 2001, which is based on the highest amount of leading publications. To be recognised as a 'highly cited researcher', a scientist must have had a significant impact on the work of fellow scientists . The domains in which Ghent University has a high concentration of leading publications is primarily within life sciences. Biotechnology has had a significant impact on the research done by many Ghent University experts in these domains. For the Plant & Animal Science field, Kris Moreel, Alain Goossens, Dirk Inzé, Frank Van Breusegem, Stephane Rombauts, Tom Beeckman, Wout Boerjan, and Yves Van de Peer were once again recognised as Highly Cited Researchers, but the newest addition to this Ghent University list is Klaas Vandepoele.
