On the occasion of World Day for Laboratory Animals, researchers of the 3R Competence Network NRW explain how animal experimentation can be improved and why it is still necessary. The network's actions center around the "3Rs principle" (Replace, Reduce, Refine). In a photo collage, researchers, animal welfare officers and animal attendants from all of North-Rhine Westphalia are now outlining how best possible animal welfare and excellent research can go hand in hand, how important it is to conduct further research on new approaches and alternative methods and why experiments on animals are currently still indispensable.
