The FOPH, FSVO, FOAG and FOEN have launched a campaign to raise awareness among the Swiss population about the responsible use of antibiotics. Antibiotics save lives Antibiotics are drugs that kill bacteria or inhibit their growth. They are therefore an important medical weapon in the fight against bacterial diseases in humans and animals. However, bacteria can get used to antibiotics and become antibiotic-resistant if they are used too often or incorrectly. The problem of antibiotic resistance affects human medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture and the environment. Raising public awareness of the correct use of antibiotics The campaign, which runs through 2021, aims to raise awareness among the entire Swiss population about the proper and responsible use of these drugs. Television commercials, posters and banners will feature a mole, a dog and a frog who explain how to use antibiotics: "Antibiotics: it is important to use them responsibly." The campaign is part of the National Strategy on Antibiotic Resistance (StAR).
