Dr Rowena Martin is one of the finalists in this year's Eureka Prizes.
ANU researchers Dr Rowena Martin and Professor David Lindenmayer are among the finalists for this year's Eureka prizes. Dr Martin, NH&MRC Australian Biomedical Fellow at the Research School of Biology, is one of three finalists in the running for the Eureka Prize for Early Career Research. The prize is awarded for outstanding scientific research conducted by an individual or groups of early career researchers who are aged 35 years or younger. Dr Martin's research looks at malaria resistance. The emergence of malaria parasites that are resistant to cheap antimalarial drugs, like chloroquine, has been a disaster for world health. Her work shows how this resistance can be caused by small changes in a parasite protein and how this mechanism can be overcome. Professor Lindenmayer of the Fenner School of Environment and Society is one of three finalists for the Eureka Prize for Environmental Research.
