Battle of the Big Bands
The King's College London Jazz Society is hosting the prestigious University of London Battle of the Big Bands on 27 March. King's is hosting this year's competition after winning it last year and the event will be KCL Radio's first-ever live broadcast. Five bands will be participating in the competition: Royal Holloway, UCL, the University of London Big Band, City and King's. Each band will play a half-hour set including one swing, one Latin and one funk number, then the bands are free to choose the rest of the programme with the optional use of singers. King's student Rob Busiakiewicz will conduct KCL's jazz band and première his new musical arrangement. Fabric and Ministry of Sound DJ JackLNDN will also perform after the competition at the venue. The big bands will be judged on the quality of their performance, balance of their sets and the pieces' creative repertoire.
