Call for seed money-proposals spring 2023
The Focus Area Migration and Societal Change at Utrecht University is launching a fifth call for proposals to be awarded seed money funding for new research initiatives. It is the main purpose of such seed money to stimulate and foster excellent research in the field of the focus area, and to establish new and/or strengthen existing interdisciplinary collaborations. This focus area provides a platform for researchers at Utrecht University working on migration and related societal transformations. It stimulates cross-fertilization between researchers from different disciplines and with stakeholders in the wider society. Thematically, the focus area concentrates on migration to and between European countries in the 20th and 21st century. This is placed into a larger historical framework (to include, e.g., (post)colonial constellations), and approached from a transnational perspective that understands Europe as co-constituted by and entangled with other parts of the world. Three interrelated themes give orientation to activities of the focus area in its initial phase: The first theme relates to the drivers and dynamics of migration such as push and pull factors in relation to climate change, poverty, (post-)colonial dynamics, persecution due to religion, politics or sexual orientation and the various types of migration that evolve in, out of and towards Europe.
