Photo: Universität Hamburg / Schell The Universität Hamburg Main Building - Starting today, Universität Hamburg has a new president: Univ. Hauke Heekeren follows in the footsteps of Dr. h.c. Dieter Lenzen, who ended his second term of office at the end of February at the age of 74 and is now enjoying his retirement. Hauke Heeren, 51, left Freie Universität Berlin to come to Hamburg. The doctor and university manager, who has long-standing experience in heading interdisciplinary collaborative projects and large units within the Excellence strategy, received his official appointment documents from the Hamburg Senate on 15 February 2022. In accordance with the requirements set forth in the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG), Heekeren officially commenced duties for his 6-year tenure on 1 February. Heekeren was appointed following election by the Academic Senate and confirmation by the University Council of Universität Hamburg in October 2021. Hauke Heekeren -I am very happy to begin working today at Universität Hamburg in cooperation with the Executive University Board.
