KCLSU becomes a registered charity
KCLSU becomes a registered charity. Jul 2010, PR 155/10 - KCLSU has become one of the first students' unions in the country to register as a charity. As a result of the 2006 Charities Act, all students' unions are required to register with the Charity Commission. The Charity Commission began accepting applications from students' unions in June 2010 and KCLSU has recently been notified that their application has been accepted. Ryan Wain, KCLSU President, comments, 'I'm very pleased about today's announcement, it's a testament to the professionalism of KCLSU and reflects the work we are doing to engage with and continue to meet our students' needs.' Jennifer Finn, Head of Marketing & Communications, KCLSU, explains what this means for students: 'In order to receive Charity Commission approval we were required to demonstrate that we are a well managed, transparent and accountable organisation. Most importantly of all, we had to show that our activities were of benefit to the student body. We have been working over a number of years to re-structure and re-focus the organisation in order to pass this test so whilst students are unlikely to notice a difference directly as a result of our registration, we are now in better shape than ever to meet their needs.'
