King’s Professor awarded Gerontology Prize
King’s Professor awarded Gerontology Prize. Jul 2010, PR 156/10 Professor Anthea Tinker has received the Alan Walker Prize at this year's British Society of Gerontology Annual Conference at Brunel University. The competitive award is awarded annually to an individual or organisation that, in the opinion of the judges, has made a significant and lasting contribution to social gerontology in Britain. The British Society of Gerontology established the Alan Walker Prize in 2007 in recognition of the significant contribution Professor Walker has made to British and international social gerontology. Candidates are nominated by members of the British Society of Gerontology and judged for the award by the significant impact the nominee has made on the policy process and thereby on improving the quality of life of older people. It is not awarded for an academic contribution alone. Professor Tinker has undertaken a wide range of research in the field of social policy, specialising since 1974, in gerontology.
