The range of courses in medical technology/life sciences will also be expanded. The HSLU is thus making an important contribution to combating the shortage of specialists and the talent drain in the healthcare sector in Central Switzerland. The decision of the Concordat Council is based on well-founded investigations carried out jointly by the HSLU and the XUND Education Center. Central Switzerland's healthcare facilities have a high demand for specialists, which will continue to increase in the future. According to forecasts by the Swiss Health Observatory (Obsan) and research by the HSLU, there will be a need for 3,585 additional nursing staff at tertiary level by 2029, of which around 3,150 will be at university of applied sciences level and 400 to 450 at university of applied sciences level. Against this backdrop, the Concordat Council approved the final report on the review mandate, including recommendations, at its meeting on 18 December 2023 and approved the HSLU's proposals to establish Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Nursing UAS and to expand the existing Bachelor's degree course in Medical Technology.
