Pro-Chancellor awarded MBE
Barbara Bond, University of Plymouth Pro-Chancellor has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday honours for service to Higher Education. Barbara, who lives in West Bagborough, Somerset, is the former Deputy Chief Executive of the UK Hydrographic Office. She is a Fellow and past-Council member of the Royal Geographical Society, and Fellow and past-President of the British Cartographic Society. Barbara's Higher Education work includes acting as Chair of graduate Fast Stream recruitment panels for the Cabinet Office and as an external assessor and adviser for graduate recruitment in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She is also a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England's Leadership, Governance and Management Strategic Advisory Committee and sits on the Equality Challenge Unit's Project Group currently considering the need to increase diversity in university governance in Great Britain. Barbara joined the University of Plymouth Board of Governors in 2000 and was appointed Chair of the Board in 2006 before retiring in December 2008 to take on her new role as Pro-Chancellor. She has also served as Chair of the University's Employment & Remuneration Committee and member of the Finance Committee, Nominations Committee and the Honorary Awards Committee.
