Devil Rock at the Seymour Centre.
Rock stars old and new will unite for the first ever Devil Rock concert in an effort to save the Tasmanian devil - and they are asking for Australians to get involved. Devil Rock is a fundraising and awareness campaign to help prevent the extinction of the Tasmanian devil. The concert will be held on the 4 October from 1 to 5.30pm at the Seymour Centre. The Tasmanian devil faces the very real prospect of extinction in the wild due to the spread of the debilitating Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD). DFTD is a contagious cancer specific to the Tasmanian devil and is spread when the animals bite each other. A decade ago the Tasmanian devil was regarded as common, but now the wild population has decreased by around 70 percent and the disease is showing no signs of letting up. Associate Professor Kathy Belov from the Faculty of Veterinary Science is leading the research to understand and contain the spread of DFTD.
