Scientists make The Times’ Top 100
Two scientists from the University of Bristol have been named among the 100 most important people in British science and engineering in a list published today. The list was compiled for the first anniversary edition of The Times? science magazine, Eureka. Anthony Hollander , ARC Professor of Rheumatology and Tissue Engineering in the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine , appeared at number 39 for his pioneering work on stem cells which enabled the first tissue-engineered trachea , utilising the patient's own stem cells, to be successfully transplanted into a young woman with a failing airway. Steve Sparks , Chaning Wills Professor of Geology in the School of Earth Sciences featured at number 87. He is a leading volcanologist and Director of the Bristol Environmental Risk Research Centre.
