Status and Prospects of Family Medicine Development in the Republic of Tajikistan
Status and Prospects of Family Medicine Development in the Republic of Tajikistan. On 27th September the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MoHSP) organised a regional conference entitled 'Status and Prospects of Family Medicine Development in the Republic of Tajikistan'. The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute was represented by Professor Kaspar Wyss, Head of the Swiss Centre for International Health, short term Medical Education expert Professor Renato Galeazzi, and Dr. Helen Prytherch - overseeing Swiss TPH activities in Tajikistan. The event was supported by the key partners of MoHSP, namely the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), WHO-EURO, World Bank, European Union and Aga Khan Foundation. Long Time Engagement of Swiss TPH in Tajikistan Swiss TPH implements two projects in Tajikistan on behalf of SDC. Firstly, the 'Medical Education Reform Project', and secondly, together with Save the Children, the "Enhancing Primary Health Care Services" Project. In the frame of the conference a number of presentations were made based on the project's experiences: on how medical education is the foundation of successful Family Medicine in the country, and on the importance of transparent health planning with community involvement.
