Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala - The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is awarding an honorary doctorate to economist Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Okonjo-Iweala is receiving the honorary doctorate for her crucial work as Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and in recognition of her extraordinary contributions towards the fight for global equity, fair trade and environmentally sustainable development. The honorary doctorate will be presented during the celebration of the UvA Dies Natalis on Monday, 10 January 2022. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a Nigerian-American economist, fair trade advocate, environmental sustainability advocate, human welfare advocate, expert in sustainable finance and global development. She is the first woman and the first African to head the World Trade Organization as its Director-General. Her achievements have contributed significantly to the fight against poverty in countries around the world. Emancipation of women.
