Volunteers wanted for new dementia study
Researchers at ANU are looking for people who are experiencing memory or other cognitive problems in daily life to take part in a new study on how to reduce the risk of dementia. The study is a lifestyle intervention for people aged 65 years and over and who live in the ACT and surrounds. In Australia more than 413,000 people live with dementia. By 2025 the number of people with dementia is expected to increase to 536,164 with the number of new cases increasing by 650 people per day by 2056. People who experience cognitive problems are at an increased risk of developing dementia. Mitchell McMaster from the ANU Centre for Research on Ageing, Health and Wellbeing said this was the fourth Body Brain Life study run by the Centre. The study involves online education modules about how to reduce dementia risk, increase physical exercise, maintain a healthy brain diet and keep your brain active to reduce the risk of dementia.
