The School of Engineering’s research profile is characterised by its expertise in the engineering domains of materials, composites, energy, thermal management, mechanobiology, biomedical devices, robotics and digital manufacturing amongst others. Our research leadership is strongly reflected in the track record of successfully securing competitive research funding, notably in Horizon Europe, the ERC programme as well as industrial collaboration through nationally funded centres like SSPC and DPTC. The school is closely linked with the Bernal Institute. Whilst all research areas relating to Digital Manufacturing are welcome, of particular interest are those that strategically align with the activities of the Bernal Institute. The school has a strong focus on excellent engineering, science research and education. Our school offers accredited (by Engineers Ireland and the Washington Accord) undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a range of engineering disciplines including Aeronautical, Biomedical, Civil, Design & Manufacture, Digital Mechatronics, and Mechanical, in addition to programmes in Construction Management and Engineering and Technology Management. The school offers postgraduate research programmes (MSc and PhD) in a variety of disciplines, including Thermofluids, Industrial Automation and Manufacturing, Composites, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Fluid Dynamics, Aerospace Engineering, and others. The School of Engineering has over 1700 students. It delivers various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supervises approximately 120 Doctoral students. The School of Engineering is a leader in internationalisation, reflected in the high rate of international staff members and the number of international students. Additionally, the School has applied for a Silver Athena Swan award in 2026 and currently holds a Bronze Award. Applicants should have experience conducting high-quality research, as demonstrated by published articles in international Q1 ISI-ranked journals and a pipeline of competitive funding for research. Evidence of high-impact publications and awareness of the potential impact of the publications beyond academia is expected. The successful candidate is expected to: teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on accredited engineering programmes, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research, undertake administrative tasks associated with an academic position and undertake excellent research.
