Wildlife health considerations in conservation translocations
A team of researchers, including Katie Beckmann, a PhD candidate at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), have conducted a study into the health outcomes in wildlife reintroduction projects. Conservation translocations as they are formally termed are defined as population reinforcement, reintroduction, assisted colonisation or ecological replacement.

Do long limbs really provide a leg up?
Musculoskeletal models reveal the impact of giraffe's long limbs on its mobility. New research from the RVC has revealed new insights into giraffe mobility and how the efficiency of movements in relation to body mass appears to plateau amongst animals of a certain size. These findings contradict what is commonly assumed for many mammals - that possessing long, straight limbs necessarily confers a mechanical advantage which enhances speed and muscle efficiency.

RVC wins research grant to investigate how viral diseases spread in salmon farms
The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has been awarded a £500,000 BBSRC ( Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) grant to investigate how viruses spread between salmon farms to cause disease outbreaks. The project establishes a new collaboration between the RVC, the Institute of Marine Research in Norway, PHARMAQ (the global commercial leader in vaccines and innovation for aquaculture health), and the Institute of Marine Research in Norway.
