Dare to Think: Ghent University people on their science hero

Many people from Ghent University have a personal icon, a science hero they look up to, who inspires and urges them to explore new paths and directions. Five of them share their science heroes in the newest edition of Dare to Think. You can also read all about the Internet of Things, in which a smart environment is created by incorporating sensors and actuators into all aspects of our lives. "The Internet of Things is much more than just a hype," say Professor Piet Demeester, Ann Ackaert and Wouter Haerick in Dare to Think. "IoT will have a huge impact on our lives - and already does. If you had predicted ten years ago that almost every car would have a radar system, no one would have believed you." In the brand-new Ghent University Homelab at the Zwijnaarde Science Park, users can test out various IoT applications. Ghent University, UA and VUB have also launched a post-graduate Internet of Things study programme this academic year, an absolute necessity, as the industry is in dire need of candidates with the right expertise.
