MIT iPhone App now available on App Store
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology today announced its MIT App is now available from Apple's App Store. In addition to the latest news on MIT research, innovation, teaching and campus life, the app will also give iPhone and iPod touch users access to a searchable people directory, an interactive campus map, class information and announcements, emergency updates, and other practical information for the 15,000-member MIT community. ?MIT helped create much of the electronic media the world uses, so were delighted to have developed an app for iPhone and iPod touch that offers our community, and the broader public, news about MIT, as well as a range of tools to navigate the Institute,? said Jason Pontin, MIT director of communications. ?The MIT App has been collaboratively designed and developed by MIT students and staff to extend the Institute?s mobile framework to support the revolutionary functionality of iPhone and iPod touch,? said Marilyn T. Smith, MIT?s head of Information Services and Technology, who managed the project. The app was developed by exploring the "best in breed" of existing news and educational apps on the App Store. "We believe the MIT App is one of the most functional, user-friendly apps of any educational institutional to date," said David Foucher, director of web development at the News Office.
