Sydney enhances its research links with China

The University of Sydney participates in more international research partnerships than any other Australian university, and is the world's fifth most frequent collaborator with Chinese universities, according to new research. Drawing on data from Thomson Reuters, the University's Research Analysis and Data Strategy team shows that the University of Sydney participated in 36,058 international collaborations, more than any other Go8 university. It also shows that China is the University's third most important overseas research partner after the United States and the United Kingdom. The Thomson Reuters research prepared in May this year examined Go8 universities' international collaborations that was published in Thomson-indexed journals from 1993-2009. The bulk of the dataset was collected between 1996-2008. Another Thomson Reuters report prepared in November last year examines global research links with China. It shows that the University of Sydney is the world's fifth most frequent university collaborator with Chinese institutions.
