UCL staff awarded host of MRC Fellowships

The Medical Research Council (MRC) has awarded UCL staff a host of prestigious Fellowships. The MRC awarded Antonella Riccio (MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology) and Josef Kittler (UCL Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology) Senior Non-Clinical Fellowships. Riccio is investigating new mechanisms of regulating gene expression in neurons while Kittler is exploring how factors that affect the movement of GABA receptors into the synapse can influence the strength of nerve signals. Their work will increase understanding of neuronal development and neurological diseases such as epilepsy, addiction, Huntington's and stroke. Other recent UCL recipients of MRC Fellowships: R Alonzi (Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research), Clinician Scientist Fellowship. G Winston (Institute of Neurology), C Yeo (Division of Medicine), T Connor (Metabolism and Experimental Therapeutics) and B Carpenter (Division of Biosciences), all Clinical Training Fellowships. M Ryten (Institute of Neurology), Bioinformatics Training Fellowship.
